What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. They let the site remember things between pages and visits, such as that you’re signed in or the choices you’ve made.
Types of cookies
First-party and third-party. First-party cookies are set by the site you’re visiting; third-party cookies are set by another company’s service on that site. The cookies we set are first-party. We don’t let advertisers or social networks set cookies on our website.
Session and persistent. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay for a set time or until you delete them. We use both: for example, the code you just scanned is remembered for 12 hours, and your privacy choices for about 13 months.
Similar technologies
A few things are saved in your browser’s storage instead of a cookie, and never leave your device: that you finished a sign-up that started with a scan, and, until you close the tab, the location you chose to share with a scan. The app doesn’t use your phone’s browser storage.

We don’t use analytics, advertising, social media or functional cookies on our website. We may measure visits anonymously on our own servers, with no cookies; our Privacy Policy explains how. The app doesn’t use cookies; what it sends about performance and crashes is in our Privacy Policy.
Our contact and request forms include a bot check from a security service. It runs in its own frame and may keep small items of its own, only to tell people from automated spam.
When you create an account in the app, our server uses an offline copy of an IP address database to find your US state, so we can show the safety notice New Jersey, Illinois or New York requires. How can you control cookies?
Your privacy choices. On Your privacy choices you can choose necessary cookies only or all cookies. Until you choose “All cookies”, we use necessary cookies only. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Sale or sharing stays off, whatever you choose.
Your browser and device. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data in their settings. If you block essential cookies, a sign-up that starts with a scan won’t finish, and your privacy choices won’t be remembered.
