How we keep it safe
What each safety tool does today. The rules everyone agrees to are in our Community guidelines.
It starts in person
- You connect by scanning someone’s live code when you’re together. Nobody can search for you or find you by your name.
- The code changes every 30 seconds and works once, so a screenshot won’t get anyone far.
Verification
- Your email is confirmed with a link at sign-up.
- Verified members also confirm their phone with a code and pass a photo ID check: a government-issued photo ID and a live selfie. Our ID-check partner confirms the ID is genuine and that the selfie matches it.
- The Verified badge shows who did. “Only allow verified users to connect with you” keeps everyone else out of your code.
- Only Verified members can share their contact details.
What other members see
- Your preferred name and your age. After you share your contact info, also your verified full name and the details you picked. Never your birthday.
In your conversations
- Phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, links, social handles and requests for money or payment details can’t be sent in messages. Contact details are shared only when you choose to share them.
- A message with threats or abusive language is stopped before it’s sent, and our team is told. Our own safety models also check each message before delivery; one that might not land well is held, and only you are asked to edit it or send it anyway.
Reports
- Report a profile or a message anytime. It’s never shown to them, and someone on our team reviews it.
- A report of nudity or sexual content, or of a fake profile, hides that profile photo right away while we review it.
- If two different members report someone for harassment or explicit content within 14 days, their profile is paused at once until our team has looked at it.
- We review reports as quickly as we can, urgent ones first.
Take a break, or remove someone
- Take a break anytime. It turns off contact sharing and cancels meetups you planned together, and they aren’t told you’re on a break.
- Remove someone and they lose access to you right away. The only way back is a new scan, and you both add the connection again.
Meetups
- Send a meetup’s details to a friend or family member, or add up to three emergency contacts and have them sent automatically at 6 AM on the day. They get your preferred names, the time, the place and the meet ID.
- Every meetup has its own meet ID, and it stays on file with us even if plans change.
Your location
- When a code is scanned and location is allowed, we save where each of you was at that moment with the connection, for safety. Only our team can see it, no member ever sees it, and we don’t keep a history of where you go.
Partner safety standards
Every partner venue:
- Is a public establishment with listed hours, open to everyone, never a private home.
- Has staff on site whenever it’s open.
- Has a safety plan that fits the venue, such as door staff or security where it makes sense, and staff who know how to help a guest who quietly asks for help (for example, by ordering an “angel shot”).
- Makes it easy to ask staff for help, with a staffed bar, host stand or counter guests can go to.
- Has agreed to our partner listing terms.
Our team checks every standard before a venue is listed, and the check is due again a year later.
If you’re in danger
If you’re in danger, call 911. Then report the person, and our team will take it from there. For anything else, visit Help & contact.
Help lines, safety tips, our Colorado safety policy and the notices other states require are on Safety notices by state.
