Answers to the questions we hear most. Can’t find yours? We’re happy to help on our Help & contact page.
Account
Who can join?
Anyone 18 or older. We ask for your birth date when you sign up to check your age. Nobody else ever sees it, only your age.
I forgot my password. What now?
On the app’s sign-in screen, tap “Forgot your password?” and we’ll email you a six-digit code to set a new one. After 5 wrong codes, the reset is paused for your safety; contact us and we’ll help you back in.
Can I sign in without a password?
Yes. In the app, open Settings, then Security, and add a passkey to sign in with your fingerprint or face, which never leaves your device. You can also turn on two-step verification there for extra protection.
Do I have to use my real name?
You can pick a preferred name (up to 40 characters) and change it anytime. Until you share your contact info, that’s what people see. Your full, verified name shows up only when you share it.
Can I change my email or phone number?
Yes, in the app: My Account, then Profile. We send a code to the one you have now, then one to the new one, and the change takes effect once you’ve confirmed both.
Is something not working?
Tell us on Help & contact what you were doing and what happened, and we’ll reply by email.
Connecting
How do I connect with someone?
In person. Let them scan your live code, and you both see each other’s photo, first name, age and whether they’re Verified. There’s no search, no browsing and no public profiles.
Does the other person need an account to scan?
They need the app. Any phone camera can scan your code, and it takes them to the app or to where they can get it. We hold the connection for 12 hours from the scan while they sign in or create an account, and then you both see who you met. Nobody’s put on the spot: you each decide within those 12 hours, in private, and it’s added only if you both say yes.
Can someone use a screenshot of my code?
Not for long. Your code changes every 30 seconds and works once, and only the person who scans it can connect.
What can I do for free?
Once you’ve confirmed your email, you can scan, connect and chat for free, with messages and 1 new connection a week, counted from when you signed up. Packs you buy never expire. Meetups and sharing them with someone you trust are free too. Once you’re Verified (a membership plus your phone and ID checked), you get the Verified badge, unlimited messages and new connections, and sharing your contact info. See Membership.
How do meetups work?
Pick a day, a time and a place together. Once you both confirm, it’s saved in your Meetups. You can send the details to someone you trust, or have them sent to up to three emergency contacts.
What happens when I remove someone?
They lose access to you right away, and any meetups you had planned together are canceled. The only way back is a new scan, and you both add the connection again. If you both choose to reconnect, your old conversation comes back, but meetups you had planned and your contact sharing don’t.
Can I take a break from someone without removing them?
Yes. Take a break anytime. It turns off contact sharing with them and cancels any meetups you have planned together. They aren’t told you’re on a break. What they send during the break reaches you when it ends, and your contact sharing comes back.
Verification
What do I need to verify?
To get started, just your email: we send you a link, and you set a password right after. For the Verified badge: a membership, your phone (with a code) and your ID, with a selfie that matches your photo.
What does a membership include?
Once you’re Verified (your phone and ID checked): the Verified badge, unlimited messages and new connections, and sharing your contact info when you’re ready. See Membership.
How does the ID check work?
You take a photo of your government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport or national ID card) and a live selfie. Our ID-check partner confirms the ID is genuine and that your selfie matches it.
Do you keep my ID or selfie?
We keep the result and one copy of your ID document, for our safety team only. We never copy your selfie: our team sees it only at our ID-check partner, for the photo check, within 24 hours, and we never keep face data. The Privacy Policy has the details. Please don’t send an ID through chat, the support form or a profile photo.
My ID check didn’t pass. What can I do?
Make sure the name and birth date on your profile match your ID, then try again. If it still won’t go through, reach out on our Help & contact page.
What does “Only allow verified users to connect with you” do?
When it’s on, only verified members can connect with you. If someone who isn’t verified scans your code, the connection waits in Pending for 12 hours. Once they’re verified, you can both add it, and your setting stays on. If you turn it on while you have connections who aren’t verified, they have 6 days to become members and verify. Until then, messages, contact sharing and new meetups are paused for both of you. If they don’t verify in time, the connection ends quietly.
Is the email and phone code a background check?
No. A code only confirms you can reach that email or phone. The ID check is what confirms a member’s name and age.
Membership and billing
How much is a membership?
A membership includes the Verified badge. $14.99 a month, or $134.99 a year (25% less than 12 monthly payments). On the monthly plan, your first membership is $4.99 a month for your first 3 months. Cancel anytime.
What is the First 100 offer?
While spots are left, the first 100 paying members pay $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, and keep that price as long as their membership stays active. See Membership.
What if I need more messages or connections?
Packs are available in the app: , or 1 new connection, for $1.49 each, one pack per purchase. Packs never expire and are used after the week’s free ones. Or become a member and get Verified for unlimited messages and new connections.
Does my membership renew automatically?
Yes, every month or every year until you cancel. The App Store or Google Play bills and renews it, and sends your receipts and renewal notices.
How do I cancel?
Anytime. In the app, open My Account, then Membership, and tap Manage subscription. It opens your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, where you cancel or resume.
Can I switch from monthly to yearly?
Yes. In the app, open My Account, then Membership, and tap Manage subscription to change your plan in the App Store or Google Play. When the change starts is up to the store.
Can I get a refund?
See Refunds in the Terms.
Safety and reporting
How do I report someone?
Open their page in Connections and tap Report, then pick a reason (Nudity or sexual content, Fake profile or impersonation, Harassment or unwanted contact, Threats or safety concern, May be under 18, Scam or fraud, Something else) and add a few words if you like.
Will they know I reported them?
No. Reports are never shown to the person you report, and a real person on our team reviews every one.
Does reporting remove the connection?
Not on its own. After you report, you can take a break from them or remove them. It’s your call.
How quickly do you review reports?
We review reports as quickly as we can, urgent ones first. We don’t tell you the outcome, to protect everyone’s privacy.
Can someone I trust know where I am?
Yes. Once you both confirm a meetup, send its details to a friend or family member, or add up to three emergency contacts and have them sent automatically at 6 AM on the day.
What if I’m in danger?
If you’re in danger, call 911. Then report the person, and our team will take it from there.
Privacy
What do my connections see?
Your preferred name and your age. After you share your contact info, also your verified full name and the details you picked. Never your birthday.
Can people find me by searching?
No. There’s no search and no public profiles. People can reach you only by scanning your live code, and nothing connects unless you both say yes.
Who sees my notes?
Just you. Your meetup notes and ratings are private. No other member can see them.
Can I get a copy of my data or ask for a correction?
Yes. Ask on our Help & contact page. See the Privacy Policy.
Law enforcement requests
Law enforcement and government agencies can send a request through our law enforcement request page.
Deleting your account
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open My Account and tap Delete my account (it’s also in Settings, under Privacy & legal). Or use our Delete my account page, no sign-in needed. Your account is hidden right away and scheduled for removal. If you pay for a membership in the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there too (see “What happens to my membership?”).
Can I change my mind?
Yes, until the deadline shown in the app: open Settings, then Privacy & legal, and tap Cancel deletion. Signing in alone doesn’t cancel it.
What happens to my membership?
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a membership you pay for in the App Store or Google Play, so cancel it in your phone’s subscription settings first. On an iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Hey, It’s You! and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android: open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Hey, It’s You! and tap Cancel subscription. See Refunds in the Terms.
Can I pause instead?
Yes. In the app, open Settings, then Privacy & legal, and tap Pause my account to hide your profile. Tap Reactivate my account whenever you’re ready. Pausing applies to your profile and who can see you, not to billing: a membership you pay for in the App Store or Google Play keeps renewing until you cancel it there.
What do you keep after deletion?
See the Privacy Policy.
You asked.
Do they need an account to scan?
Not to scan, but they need the app to connect.
What does Verified mean?
We checked their ID, and their name and age match it. Not verified means it’s what they told us, and we haven’t checked their ID yet.
What happens when I remove someone?
They lose access to you right away, and any meetups you had planned together are canceled. The only way back is a new scan, and you both add the connection again. If you both choose to reconnect, your old conversation comes back, but meetups you had planned and your contact sharing don’t.
What do my connections see?
Your preferred name and your age. After you share your contact info, also your verified full name and the details you picked. Never your birthday.
Is it for dating or friendship?
Both! Whether you’re hoping for a date or a new friend, it’s for anyone you met in person and want to see again. Where it goes is up to you two.
Can someone I trust know where I am?
Yes. Once you both confirm a meetup, send its details to a friend or family member from the app, or add up to three emergency contacts in your profile and have the details sent to them automatically at 6 AM on the day. They get your preferred names, the time, the place and the meet ID. No last names, photos or contact details.
How much does it cost?
Free to meet: your account, scanning, connecting, chatting and planning meetups cost nothing. Free members get 100 messages and 1 new connection a week. Verified to stand out: once you’re Verified (a membership plus your phone and ID checked), you get the Verified badge, unlimited connections and messages, contact sharing and “Only allow verified users to connect with you”. A membership is $14.99 a month (first-time members on the monthly plan pay $4.99 a month for their first 3 months), or $134.99 a year (25% less than 12 monthly payments). Cancel anytime.
