Safety notices by state

Some US states ask dating services to tell their members certain things about safety. We think everyone should know them, so they’re all here, wherever you live. Hey, It’s You! is operated by BluNET Holding Company, LLC. Questions? Email legal@heyitsyouagain.com.

If you’re in danger, call 911.

Background checks

HEY, IT’S YOU! DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS, AND DOES NOT CHECK SEX-OFFENDER REGISTRIES.

What we do check: every member confirms their email with a link. Verified members also confirm their phone with a code and pass a photo ID check, a government-issued photo ID and a live selfie; our ID-check partner confirms the ID is genuine and that the selfie matches it. The Verified badge shows who did. No check is foolproof, and none of them tells you whether someone is safe to meet.

Safety tips

Online

  • There’s no substitute for acting with caution when you talk with anyone you’ve just met who wants to meet you. Anyone who can steal an identity can make a fake profile.
  • Don’t put your last name, email address, home address, phone number, workplace or other identifying details in your profile or your first messages. Stop talking with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or tries to trick you into revealing it.
  • Never send money or share bank, card or other financial details, however good the reason sounds.
  • Keep talking in Hey, It’s You! until you’re ready to share your contact details.
  • If someone pressures you, asks for money or makes you uneasy, report them.

Meeting in person

  • If you choose to meet, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Hey, It’s You! can send them your meetup’s details.
  • Never agree to be picked up at your home. Get there and back on your own, and meet in a public place with lots of people around.
  • Keep an eye on your drink and know your limits with alcohol.
  • You can leave at any time, for any reason. Trust your instincts.

Consent and sexual health

  • Consent is a clear, freely given yes, every time, and it can be taken back at any time. Someone who is drunk, high or asleep can’t consent.
  • Talk about protection and sexual health before things get physical.

Colorado: our safety policy

This is our online dating safety policy under Colorado law (C.R.S. § 6-1-731.5). It applies to every member, wherever they live.

What’s not allowed

Our Community guidelines list what isn’t allowed. That includes anything that threatens someone’s safety: harassment, threats, stalking, pressuring anyone, scams, impersonation, and sexual messages or photos. These rules apply in Hey, It’s You!, at a meetup and anywhere else between people who met here.

Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without their consent violates this safety policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.

Background checks

We don’t run criminal background screenings (see Background checks). Anyone who is a registered sex offender, is required to register as one, or has been convicted of a sexual or violent offense that requires registration can’t use Hey, It’s You!: members confirm this when they create or use an account (Terms of Use), and we may remove an account when we learn it breaks this. We don’t exclude members for other criminal convictions.

Identity and age

Every member must be 18 or older: we check the birth date at sign-up and whenever it changes. Every member confirms their email with a link. A Verified member has also confirmed their phone and passed our photo ID check, which confirms their name and birth date, so their age is checked against their ID. Our team can also ask any member to pass the ID check if there’s a concern about who they are or how old they are.

Suspensions and removal

  • If two different members report someone for harassment or explicit content within 14 days, their profile is paused at once until our team has looked at it. A report of nudity or sexual content, or of a fake profile, hides that profile photo right away.
  • Our team reviews what happened. Depending on that, we restrict the member’s messaging or new connections, suspend them while we review, or remove them for good. Serious offenses can lead straight to a suspension or to removal. Opening another account to get around a removal isn’t allowed.

Appeals

A member who disagrees with a decision can appeal on our Help & contact page within 30 days. Our safety team reviews every appeal. We answer appeals as quickly as we can.

Telling other members

To protect everyone’s privacy, we don’t tell other members when someone is reported or removed, with one exception: if we remove someone for fraud or a false identity, everyone who exchanged messages with them gets a notice in the app and an email (to a confirmed email address) within 24 hours. It never says who it was, and it explains how to stay safe and where to report a scam.

How to report

Tap Report profile on the person’s connection page, or report a single message, and pick a reason: Nudity or sexual content, Fake profile or impersonation, Harassment or unwanted contact, Threats or safety concern, May be under 18, Scam or fraud, Something else. You can also contact us on our Help & contact page. The person you report never sees it. If you’re in danger, call 911 first.

Please report honestly. Don’t send a report you know isn’t true, or report someone to get back at them or because of who they are. False or malicious reports are against our guidelines too.

What we do with a report

  • We review reports as quickly as we can, urgent ones first.
  • To protect everyone’s privacy, we don’t share the outcome of a report.

What we do to keep dating safer

  • You can only connect with someone by scanning their live code when you’re together. Nobody can search for you or find you by your name.
  • Verification and the Verified badge, as described above.
  • Phone numbers, email addresses, addresses, links, social handles and requests for money can’t be sent in messages; a message with threats or abusive language is stopped before it’s sent, and our safety models hold one that might not land well so the sender can edit it.
  • Meetup safety: send a meetup’s details to someone you trust, and add emergency contacts who get them automatically on the day.
  • Take a break from a conversation at any time (they aren’t told), or remove someone and they lose access to you right away.
